10/02/2021 (Agence Europe) – The ECR Group in the European Parliament is concerned about the federalist and assimilationist approach that it believes is dominating the process of setting up the Conference on the Future of Europe. Instead, it is advocating a Europe that respects national sovereignty and traditions. In a statement issued on Wednesday 10 February, Ryszard Legutko, the co-president of the Conservative group, said: “We want to consider better ways of cooperation, often described as a form of confederal association, that will save Europe from the clutches of a federalist ideology that risks losing all the gains made by sovereign national democracies working together over many years as equal partners”. “We need more Europe and less of the Union”, said Zdzisław Krasnodębski. At the end of 2020, the ECR group began a tour of Europe, during which it asked citizens about their vision for the future of Europe. More information can be found at: http://www.ecrthefuture.eu (MB)
