14/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 January, the President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, will officially inform MEPs of the change of name of the GUE/NGL group to ‘The Left in the European Parliament - GUE/NGL’. The decision to change the name was taken at the Group’s Bureau meeting last November. This includes a small concession from the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), which is very attached to the confederalism of the group, in order to guarantee the autonomy of each party within it (see EUROPE 12132/14). But the structure of the group will not change, we are told. The internal rules of procedure will be discussed later. (PH)
