14/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – Many politicians from all sides paid tribute on Thursday 14 January to former French MEP Marielle de Sarnez, who died the previous day. “Our European political family yesterday lost a woman of conviction and a tireless activist for Europe", declared the French delegation of the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament in a press release. “Among her great battles was of course Europe, and French pro-Europeans owe much to her. Loving Europe was a clear civic duty for her (...) She was a demanding advocate of a sovereign, strong and democratic Europe”, the group added. The president of the S&D group in the European Parliament, Iratxe Garcia Pérez, from Spain, praised Ms de Sarnez’s “passion” and “commitment” beyond any “political differences”. Marielle de Sarnez, who served in the European Parliament from 1999 to 2017, was the Secretary General of the European Democratic Party. (CG)
