A total of EUR 182.9 million has been allocated to promote EU agri-food products inside and outside the Union in 2021, the European Commission announced on Thursday 17 December.
EU policy for the promotion of agri-food products aims to increase the competitiveness of the sector by taking advantage of the expansion of global agri-food markets and by promoting the high standards used in EU agriculture, including quality and sustainability. A new framework for promotion policy will be put in place next year, as envisaged in the ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy.
Janusz Wojciechowski, Commissioner for Agriculture, stressed that “we need to maintain this budget over the next few years so that this policy can continue to support the objectives of the European Green Deal”.
Almost half of the budget (EUR 86 million) will be devoted to campaigns linked to the European Green Deal’s ambitions (sustainable agriculture in the EU, the role of the agri-food sector in climate action and environmental protection, organic labelling, healthy food).
The campaigns will also aim to highlight the high standards of safety and quality (geographical indications).
For campaigns outside the Union, priorities are set in markets with high growth potential (Japan, South Korea, Canada and Mexico).
Calls for proposals for the upcoming 2021 campaigns will be published at the beginning of the year.
A wide range of organisations, including trade organisations, producer organisations, and agri-food groups responsible for promotional activities, can apply for funding and submit proposals. The projects will be assessed against the climate and environmental objectives of the CAP, the European Green Deal, and the ‘Farm to Fork’ strategy.
