17/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 16 December, the European People’s Party (EPP Group) in the European Parliament decided not to exclude its Fidesz member Tamás Deutsch after he compared the group’s leader, Manfred Weber of Germany, to the Gestapo (the secret police under the Third Reich) at the end of November but did withdraw his rights to speak on behalf of the group in plenary and to be appointed a shadow rapporteur for the group. In its resolution, which was adopted by a vote of 133 to 6, the group condemned these remarks which “do not correspond to the values” of the EPP family and called on Fidesz MEPs to reconsider their membership in this political family, whose values they no longer seem to share. It has also called on the EPP to take a decision on Fidesz membership soon as health conditions allow. Link to the decision: http://bit.ly/3ntfCf3 (SP)
