17/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – Following approval by the European Parliament at the beginning of the week, the Council of the EU formally adopted on Thursday, 17 December, the interinstitutional agreement (see EUROPE 12601/11) on the 2021 European Year, which will be dedicated to rail (see EUROPE 12439/7). The decision will enter into force on the day following its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. Having been asked to consider launching two feasibility studies—one on the creation of a European label to promote goods transported by rail, the other on a rail connectivity index—the European Commission must inform the Council of the EU and the European Parliament of its plans by the end of March 2021.
