On Wednesday 11 November, the European Parliament adopted (627 votes in favour, 28 against and 31 abstentions) the Interinstitutional Agreement on the revision of the European Network of Public Employment Services, extending it until 31 December 2027.
Furthermore, the revision requires the European Commission to present an assessment of the functioning of the network in September 2026. The Interinstitutional Agreement also adds the objectives of the European Pillar of Social Rights and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Emphasis is placed on digital (teleworking) and climate change issues. Furthermore, the co-legislators insist on the fight against long-term unemployment.
As for the Council, the written procedure was launched at the meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives I (Coreper I) on the same day. The adoption is expected to be finalised shortly. During the presentation of the Interinstitutional Agreement, the Hungarian delegation had opposed the Agreement due to the mention of gender equality in the text (see EUROPE 12576/30).
