12/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – Meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament, MEPs adopted three resolutions by a comfortable majority on the evening of Wednesday, 11 November. These resolutions call on the European Commission to withdraw its draft implementing acts that authorise the placing on the market of products that contain: - genetically modified maize MON 87427 × MON 89034 × MIR162 × NK603 and MON 87427 × MON 87460 × MON 89034 × MIR162 × NK603; - genetically modified maize combining two, three, or four of the events MON 87427, MON 87460, MON 89034, MIR162, and NK603; and - genetically modified soybean SYHT0H2 (see EUROPE 12593/25). One of the co-rapporteurs on these resolutions, Tilly Metz (Greens/EFA, Luxembourg) notably tweeted, “The [European Parliament] calls on [European Commission] to immediately suspend imports of GM soybean from Brazil and Argentina. Protection of the Amazon should come first!” (DG)
