12/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The College of European Prosecutors decided to appoint, on Wednesday 11 November, the Italian Danilo Ceccarelli and the German Andrés Ritter as deputies to Laura Codruța Kövesi, who heads the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. Selected from among the 22 European Prosecutors, Ceccarelli and Ritter – the latter of whom had been a candidate for the post of European Chief Prosecutor (see EUROPE 12198/1) – were elected by secret ballot for a 3-year term. Ms Codruța Kövesi will be able to assign and delegate specific tasks and responsibilities to them. They will also be in charge of replacing her in her absence. The appointment of Ms Kövesi’s deputies was one of the last preparations before the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (see EUROPE 12599/16) takes up its duties, scheduled for the end of November.
