06/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 6 November, the European Union approved an additional €17.2 million from the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa (EUTF) to respond to the Covid-19 crisis in Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan. The full amount of the fund’s support for the emergency health response in the Horn of Africa is €300 million. Jutta Urpilainen, the Commissioner for International Partnerships, said that the fund has improved access to basic services for more than 4.8 million people in the region. The €17.2 million will be used: - to support internally displaced persons, refugees and host communities in Somalia; - and to provide protective equipment to frontline health workers in South Sudan and strengthen the Sudanese health system.
