06/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – The World Trade Organization (WTO) is postponing the meeting of the General Council on Monday 9 November, at which time members were to officially appoint the new Director-General, the organisation announced on Friday 6 November. The favourite candidate supported by all members except the United States is Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria (see EUROPE 12594/23). The President of the General Council, David Walke, explained that “ for reasons related to the health situation and current events, delegations would not be able to take a formal decision on 9 November”. He therefore postponed this meeting until further notice. (LM)
