Rail passenger rights, European Parliament committee approves Interinstitutional Agreement on legislative review

29/10/2020 (Agence Europe)On Thursday 29 October the European Parliament’s Transport Committee (TRAN) approved, by 38 votes to seven with four abstentions, the revision of the regulation on rail passengers’ rights, provisionally approved by the co-legislators in early October (see EUROPE 12572/9). Among the few elected representatives who opposed the text were mainly environmental MEPs. Their rapporteur, Anna Deparnay-Grunenberg, regretted that Parliament had only been able to put forward “selectively its progressive demands” during the inter-institutional negotiations. On the Member States’ side, the text was approved by Coreper on 21 October. It only remains for the EU Council and Parliament to vote on the final text in order to record its final adoption. This reform will then enter into force twenty days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU and will apply two years later. (AC)
