29/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 29 October, the European Parliament Committee on Transport (TRAN) expressed its support for the delegated act adopted by the European Commission to extend the derogation from the regulation on the use of airport slots until March 2021 (see EUROPE 12581/17). This delegated act, which came into force on 14 October under the urgency procedure, will continue to apply if no objections are raised by the Council of the EU or the Parliament before 14 December. Although the MEPs broadly welcomed this decision to support the airlines, they pointed out that the situation remains extremely difficult for the industry as a whole. Dominique Riquet (Renew Europe, France), who is the rapporteur on the proposal for a regulation on slot allocation in the EU, emphasised that many other issues involving slots deserved attention and said it was a matter of regret that this issue has been blocked in the Council of the EU since 2012.
