29/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – According to our information gathered on Wednesday 28 October, but not cross-checked, three candidates are still in the running to succeed Jan Wörner at the head of the European Space Agency (ESA). They are: - the Austrian Josef Aschbacher, who is responsible for earth observation programmes at the European agency; - the Spanish Minister for Science, Pedro Duque; - and Christian Hauglie-Hanssen, Director General of the Norwegian Space Centre. Italy's Simonetta Di Pippo, who heads the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), and France's Jean-Yves Le Gall, who is president of the Centre national d'études spatiales, are no longer in the running (see EUROPE 12555/15). The decision will be known on 17 December. As a reminder, the mandate of the German Jan Wörner ends in mid-2021. (PH)
