06/10/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Friday, 2 October, the EU Council adopted the final text of the regulation granting Member States the possibility to provide railway companies relief from certain charges. The EU Council had adopted its position on this text by written procedure at the beginning of September (see EUROPE 12556/18). The European Parliament followed suit, aligning itself with the position of the Member States so that the text could be adopted as a matter of urgency (see EUROPE 12562/29). The legal act is expected to be signed by both institutions in the margins of Parliament’s plenary session, which opened on Monday, in order to be published in the Official Journal of the EU on 12 October. It will enter into force on the day following its publication. (AC)
