10/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – A new episode is concluded in the copyright saga. Thursday 10 September marks the end of the targeted consultation on Article 17, which sets out new obligations for providers of online content sharing services to tackle the value gap. On this occasion, the rights holders wrote to the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, to express their concern. Organisations from the cultural and creative sector (including Ifpi, ACT and GESAC) are very concerned that the Commission’s consultation document “runs counter to its original objective of providing a high level of protection for rights holders and creators and creating a level playing field”. The consultation should guide the Commission’s future guidelines on Article 17 (see EUROPE 12541/3). (Letter: https://bit.ly/2FnwL8Q ) (SPj)
