10/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 10 September, Mr Athanasios Rantos took the oath as Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union for the period from 7 September 2020 to 6 October 2021, replacing Ms Eleanor Sharpston. However, the latter had obtained a provisional suspension of this appointment by means of an interim order from the EU General Court in the context of an appeal which it had itself lodged (see EUROPE 12556/25). Since then, further orders from the Court of Justice have set aside that of the EU General Court, making it possible to apply the appointment decision of the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 12551/21). However, cases on the merits remain pending before the General Court. (MB)
