Transparency International calls for European rules to be strengthened in light of recent scandals

26/08/2020 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 26 August, in a joint response to the public consultation on the Commission's Action Plan (see EUROPE 12539/21), Transparency International and 14 of its national members called on the European Union to adopt tougher legislation against money laundering in the light of recent scandals. With reference to the ‘Cyprus Papers(see EUROPE 12544/17) and the ‘Wirecard’ scandal (see EUROPE 12512/15), the organisation believes that both the financial technology industry and national investment citizenship programmes in particular should be covered by European rules.
