26/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 26 August, the European Commission approved €500,000 to support the Cypriot pig meat sector, which is in difficulty due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic. The aid was approved under the Temporary Framework for State Aid measures in place since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. Public aid, which will take the form of direct grants, will be open to any individual or legal entity who owns or manages a pig facility in which breeding sows are kept. The Commission noted that the aid does not exceed €100,000 per beneficiary and will be in force until 31 December 2020, as stipulated in the Temporary Framework. (LC)
