26/08/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission said on Wednesday 26 August that its assessment of Kosovo’s ability to benefit from the 2018 visa liberalisation regime remains “unchanged” and that it continues to consider that the country can benefit from the same regime available to other Western Balkan countries. The European Parliament has already called for Kosovo to be covered by this regime (see EUROPE 12224/11) and the Commission is calling on Member States to do so, said spokesman Christian Wigand. He was responding to press reports that several EU countries had recently asked the Commission to review its assessment. A request that could not be confirmed to EUROPE on 26 August, with one diplomat pointing out that “nothing has changed on this end”. The EU Council has been blocking the granting of this visa-free regime to Kosovo for two years. (SP)
