A public consultation is open until 20 August 2020 regarding a draft European Commission implementing regulation on administrative and scientific requirements for new foods. The adoption of this project is planned for the third quarter of 2020.
This implementing regulation will adapt the European Regulation pertaining to new foods [(EU) 2015/2283] – which sets out rules for the placing on the market and use of new foods in the EU – and to the provisions of the Regulation on transparency and increased sustainability of the scientific assessments of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) adopted in June 2019 (see EUROPE 12274/36, 12192/19).
This regulation dating from June 2019 reformed general European food law, introducing new rules concerning in particular: - advice for applicants requesting marketing authorisation; - commissioned studies; - public consultations on scientific studies; - public release of applications and supporting scientific studies/data; - confidentiality; - standard data formats.
All interested parties have until midnight (Brussels time) on 20 August to submit their comments to the European Commission. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
