27/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – Czech citizens from the Klimatická žaloba ČR association will take legal action against the Czech government in the autumn for inaction on the climate crisis. “This will be the first legal action of its kind in a Central and Eastern European country”, said CAN Europe (Climate Action Network Europe) on Friday 24 July. At issue is non-compliance with the Paris Climate Agreement and the slight increase in the Czech Republic’s greenhouse gas emissions in recent years, according to these citizens, who publicly revealed on 20 July their intention to sue the state. A crowdfunding campaign was also officially launched to finance legal actions related to the upcoming trial. Other legal proceedings are ongoing in Europe (in France, Austria, Germany and Switzerland). (AN)
