Calls for Commission to extend public consultation on its strategy for sustainable and intelligent mobility

In a joint letter addressed to the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, several organisations have called for the extension of the public consultation on the future strategy for sustainable and intelligent mobility (see EUROPE 12430/12), the European Association for Forwarding, Transport, Logistics and Customs Services (CLECAT) said on Friday 24 July.

This consultation procedure, launched on 1 July (see EUROPE 12518/27), is scheduled to end on 23 September 2020 at midnight.

We believe that more time is needed for properly running the consultation, to allow our organisations and the EU Member States to properly evaluate the consequences of the crisis”, the signatories of the letter said, recalling that the Covid-19 pandemic has created new “challenges” for the transport sector.

The organisation added that the signatories of the letter also express “their concern that the Covid-19 outbreak has considerably shortened the consultation procedure announced in the Commission’s roadmap”.

It therefore insists that the public consultation be extended until the end of October. The Commission’s strategy for developing an “Intelligent and sustainable transport sector” is expected by the end of 2020. (Original version in French by Agathe Cherki)
