10/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs adopted by a large majority (534 votes in favour, 25 against and 122 abstentions) on Friday 10 July a resolution on the Commission's action plan to combat money laundering (see EUROPE 12482/8). The final text (see EUROPE 12524/11) welcomes in particular the Commission's intention to present a proposal for a European anti-money laundering monitoring body and welcomes the transformation of part of the existing Directives into regulations. It also calls for the scope of EU rules to be extended to cover crypto-assets, for the Commission to tighten up on 'golden visas' and for a European 'grey list' of non-Member States with a high risk of money laundering to be drawn up. It should be noted that the ID Group's alternative draft resolution, which called on the Commission to identify NGOs as actors particularly at risk from money laundering, was not put to the vote. (MF)
