10/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The names of the MEPs who will sit on the three special committees, the committee of inquiry and the standing subcommittee created in June (see EUROPE 12510/9) were announced at the plenary session on Friday 10 July. The subcommittee of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) that will deal with taxation issues (see EUROPE 12504/17) has 30 members. The Committee of Inquiry on the live transport of animals has the same number of members. The three special committees - set up to deal with artificial intelligence, the fight against cancer, and foreign interference in all of the EU’s democratic processes, including disinformation - each have 33 MEPs on them. The choice of MEPs was left to the political groups. The choice of the chair and vice-chairs of each committee will be decided at their inaugural meetings in September.
