25/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – As planned (see EUROPE 12513/5), the Council of the European Union formally adopted, on Thursday 25 June, conclusions on the Union’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic in the energy sector. These conclusions are intended to set in stone several elements on which the Member States’ energy ministers agreed during their informal video conference on 28 April (see EUROPE 12476/5), in particular the fact that the energy sectors can contribute to the EU’s economic recovery by giving priority to energy efficiency. Recognising in particular the need to improve the ETS system, they further call on the Commission to continue its work within the framework of the European Green Deal, citing in particular the Renovation Wave initiative, the energy system integration strategy, the Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy, the review of the TEN-E Regulation and the Renewable Energy Financing Mechanism.
