16/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 16 June, Eurostat indicated that containment measures implemented to check the Covid-19 pandemic led to a reduction in the number of air passengers by at least 50% in March 2020 in 13 EU countries for which data are available. Among these 13 Member States (Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Croatia, Italy, Cyprus, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Slovenia, Slovakia, and Finland), the largest decrease was observed in Italy: in March 2020, the country recorded an 85% decrease compared to March 2019, namely 11.9 million fewer passengers (total number of passengers passing through the airports controlled by Assaeroporti, on arrival and departure). Next comes Germany, with a 62% decrease in the number of air passengers, namely 10.7 million fewer than the previous year (in absolute terms). (AC)
