16/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – In response to the last two jihadist attacks in northern Nigeria on 13 June, which left 50 people dead, the EU condemns in the strongest possible terms the increasing number of abuses in that country. "Attacks, abductions and killings of civilians by armed groups in northern Nigeria have killed more than 160 people, including 130 civilians, since 28 May. Such heinous acts of terrorism and violence are intolerable. These attacks pose a serious threat to the security of Nigeria and the wider region", High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell and European Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič said in a joint statement issued on Tuesday 16 June. Both call on all parties to the conflict to respect international humanitarian law. (AN)
