16/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Hungarian Parliament adopted, on Tuesday 16 June, the government's proposal to revoke the special powers granted at the start of the pandemic. MPs voted to end these highly criticised measures, which had granted full powers to Viktor Orbán, by 135 votes to 54 and with three abstentions, the Prime Minister’s spokesman, Zoltan Kovacs, announced on Twitter. The spokesman said the government is continuing to prepare for a possible second wave of the pandemic. The Commission was concerned about emergency measures without time limits. In April, the European Parliament had also condemned this emergency law in a resolution on the Covid-19 crisis. It also condemned the actions of the Polish government, which at the time was maintaining the presidential election of 10 May, which has since been postponed to 28 June. (SP)
