15/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The first ministerial meeting of the Coalition for the Sahel, organised on Friday 12 June in an enlarged format, enabled some sixty representatives of States and international institutions to reaffirm their commitment to support the action of the G5 Sahel in the fight against terrorism (see EUROPE 12505/8), but also to work to strengthen the military capabilities of the G5 Sahel States, to redeploy the State on its territory and to assist in the development of the region in the framework of the ‘Partnership for Security and Stability in the Sahel’ (P3S), according to the communiqué issued on Friday evening. It was decided that a meeting in a small format should be held in July to prepare for the next ministerial meeting after the summer. Based on the progress of work, the G5 Sahel will, in liaison with the Coalition’s partners, hold an extraordinary summit of Heads of State in 2021. (AN)
