15/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – As part of the humanitarian airlift, a flight carrying 100 tonnes of medical equipment for Afghanistan was due to take off for Kabul on Monday 15 June from Maastricht in the Netherlands as part of the Covid-19 pandemic response, the European Commission announced the same day. The flight, intended for the Commission's humanitarian partners in the field, is 100% EU-funded. At the same time, €39 million in new humanitarian aid is being made available to fight coronavirus and help victims of war, forced displacement and natural disasters in the country. Other flights are being prepared by the humanitarian airlift to other vulnerable countries such as Haiti, Burkina Faso and Sudan, an ECHO representative told members of the European Parliament's Development Committee on Monday.
