In connection with the adjustments made following Covid-19 to its work programme for the year 2020, presented on Wednesday 27 May, the European Commission has announced that it intends to extend, if possible, the public consultations for the initiatives planned for 2020 or early next year by an additional 6 weeks.
The goal, the institution explains, is to give citizens, businesses and stakeholders more time to take a stand on initiatives, noting that the Covid-19 pandemic crisis has made it more difficult for them to participate.
As for the working document itself, very few changes are to be noted compared to the provisional document earlier this week (see EUROPE 12493/25), apart from clarifications such as for the consumer empowerment initiative for the green transition, now scheduled for the second quarter of 2021.
In general, the Commission is building on the key initiatives of the Green Deal and the digital sector to support recovery with the help of the Youth Guarantee and the Instrument on Foreign Subsidies. The institution maintained the Pact on Migration, a particularly politically sensitive text.
