23/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – Enrico Rossi, the President of the Tuscany Region, in a press release published on Wednesday 22 April, on the eve of a summit between European leaders on the pandemic exit strategy, calls for a focus not on debt pooling but on the next multiannual financial framework. Citing the willingness of the President of the European Commission to set up a new 'Marshall Plan' (see EUROPE 12468/3), the President of the Italian region calls on EU leaders to commit to national contributions to bring the EU budget to an amount of not less than 1.3% of EU GNI. In his view if Member States do not increase their national contributions, it would be necessary to introduce new own resources, such as a financial transaction tax or a levy on fossil fuels. (PH)
