Commission cannot interfere with Rome’s decision to close its ports to migrants because of COVID-19

09/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Commission considered that it was “not within its competence to indicate landing places” of migrant vessels and therefore could not provide a legal analysis of the situations encountered. The institution was reacting to the Italian government’s 8 April announcement to close its ports to NGO ships because of COVID-19 and emergency health measures in the country.
