09/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Dutch Director General of Energy, Sandor Gaastra, held a video conference with his Belgian and Luxembourger counterparts, Nancy Mahieu and Simeon Hagspiel, on Tuesday 7 April to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on the energy sector. During this discussion, the Directors-General agreed that the situation was under control and that the informal contacts in place were proving useful in monitoring the situation very closely. They also discussed various possibilities for strengthening regional cooperation with other countries on energy, including the preparation of a political declaration on hydrogen within the 'Pentalateral Energy Forum', which brings together Benelux, Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland. Finally, the three officials exchanged views on enhanced cooperation on wind energy in the North Sea and on the possibility of adopting a common vision on a climate-neutral electricity system. (DG)
