27/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – A European Parliament delegation that is currently in Belarus cancelled a meeting with Belarusian MEPs on Wednesday 26 February because the meeting could not take place in the format agreed in advance. According to information we have received, the European Parliament does not want anyone to attend the Belarusian parliament, as the country has not yet been able to hold elections in accordance with internationally recognised democratic standards. Although the agreed location for the meeting was Belarusian Government premises, the format was changed at the last minute by the Belarusians and, as a result, the official meeting could not take place. This is not the first time a cancellation of this nature has occurred. “The European Parliament is always ready to hold frank and comprehensive dialogue and is prepared to engage at the next opportunity”, it announced in a tweet.
