24/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Saturday 22 February, the EU welcomed the formation of the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity in South Sudan, which took place the day before between Salva Kiir and Riek Machar, as "a key step towards peace", while stressing "the major challenges ahead", in particular the transitional security arrangements. In a written statement by the spokesperson for the European External Action Service (EEAS), the EU calls on the transitional government to "use the current momentum to make progress on these arrangements and other critical aspects of the Peace Agreement" concluded in 2018. The EU "looks forward to expanding and deepening its partnership with South Sudan" and stresses the importance of reforms. (AN)
