24/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković, clarified his vision of the initiatives that could be taken at European level to help the Member States tackle the demographic challenge characterised by regions that are losing their vitality. Some countries have implemented "social, fiscal and education policies", he told EUROPE on Friday (21 February), following the EU summit on the EU's post-2020 budget. It should be a "cocktail" of policies that tackle "negative trends", the Croatian Christian Democrat added. He expressed his confidence that the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, is ready to take up this issue: "Before being Minister of Defence, she was Minister of Social Affairs and, as a mother of seven children, she knows what demographics mean”.
