24/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 24 February, a group of thirteen NGOs called on the European Investment Bank (EIB) to not finance the project to extend Terminal 2 at Nice-Côte d'Azur airport in France. These organisations believe that the EUR 100 million loan envisaged by the EIB to support the project “contradicts the alignment of the EIB's activities with the Paris Agreement by the end of 2020 and is in complete opposition to the European Commission's Green Deal”. In a letter to the President of the bank, Werner Hoyer, they emphasise the face that this extension would lead to a 50% increase in passenger traffic, resulting in increased numbers of commercial flights (estimated at more than 20,000 per year) and, consequently, the emission of tens of thousands of additional tonnes of CO2 each year.
