17/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – French President, Emmanuel Macron, opened up the possibility on 15 February to agreeing to open accession negotiations with Albania and North Macedonia on the basis that the European Commission's report, due in the coming weeks, is positive. “We are waiting for the March report. Based on this, if the results are positive and trust is established, then we should be able to open negotiations”, he announced in Munich. However, the President expressed reservations about enlargement. “We Europeans have a problem with this in the sense that we only think about the neighbourhood in terms of enlargement”, he explained. Furthermore, he added: “It doesn't work with the Twenty-Seven. We are moving too slowly, we have unanimity rules everywhere, and it’s cumbersome. Do you really think it'll work if there are 30, 32 or 33 of us?” (CG)
