17/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 February, the European Commission approved both an aid scheme and individual aid measures to promote the shift of freight transport from road to rail in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The aid scheme has a budget of €3 million and will run until 2024. Individual aid measures granted between 2013 and 2018 amount to a total of around 1.5 million euros. The support takes the form of direct grants to owners of private railway infrastructure to contribute to the costs of construction, upgrade and renovation of track systems, rail connections and loading and unloading facilities. The European Commission found that the scheme and the individual aid measures promote the shift of freight transport from road to rail in Saxony-Anhalt. (LC)
