17/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 February, the Council of the EU adopted its matters of priority to be defended in UN human rights fora for 2020. In their conclusions, the Ministers note the European commitment to the rules-based international order, adding that the protection of human rights is an important element of it. The European Union will continue to focus on its thematic priorities of opposing the death penalty and torture, promoting accountability, international humanitarian law, fundamental freedoms, non-discrimination, children's rights and support for those defending human rights. The conclusions state that a greater emphasis will be placed on the link between human rights and the environment, and the implications of digital technologies on the protection of human rights.
