European Aviation Safety Agency withdraws its recommendations to avoid Iraqi and Iranian airspace

29/01/2020 (Agence Europe)In a press release issued on Wednesday 29 January, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) announced that it is withdrawing its temporary recommendations to avoid commercial flights and other operations in Iraqi and Iranian airspace (see EUROPE 12400/23 and EUROPE 12402/20 respectively). These recommendations had been addressed to the various national authorities responsible for civil aviation “as a precautionary measure”, following the resurgence of tensions between Iran and the United States that led to the shooting down of a Ukrainian passenger plane near Tehran. However, EASA still advises only using two specific air corridors in Iraq and avoiding flying below 25,000 feet (7,620 m) over Iran. (DG)
