European Parliament reaffirms its commitment to strengthen recognition of historical and current anti-Romani sentiment

29/01/2020 (Agence Europe)At an event in memory of the Roma and Sinti victims of the Holocaust on Tuesday 28 January, MEPs reiterated their commitment to strengthen recognition of historical and current anti-Romani sentiment. Romeo Franz (Greens/EFA, Germany) and Peter Pollak (EPP, Slovakia), members of the Bureau of the European Parliament’s Anti-Racism and Diversity Intergroup (ARDI), joined European Parliament Vice-President Lívia Járóka (EPP, Hungary) and European Commissioner for Equality, Helena Dalli,to call on Member States to recognise in future commemorations all victims of the Holocaust, including Roma and Sinti, but also Jews, LGBTI persons, persons with disabilities, political opponents and Slavs. They also asked them to fight more vigorously against anti-Romani sentiment today. (MF)
