20/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The World Health Organization (WHO) fears that declining private investment and lack of innovation in the development of new antibiotics threaten the fight against the spread of drug-resistant bacteria. The UN specialised agency released two new reports on 17 January on the lack of new antibiotics in development. "The threat of antimicrobial resistance has never been more immediate or the need for solutions more urgent", said WHO Director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, quoted in a statement. "This is one of the greatest health threats we have identified", said Peter Beyer of WHO's Department of Essential Drugs, referring to the fight against antimicrobial resistance.
