20/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – Josep Borrell met the US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, for the first time in his capacity as High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy on Sunday 19 January in Berlin. The meeting will be followed by a visit by Josep Borrell to the United States, announced the European External Action Service (EEAS). According to Luxembourg Minister Jean Asselborn, Mr Borrell would visit Washington on 7 February. The visit “should be an opportunity to progress the EU-US foreign policy dialogue and focus specifically on ways to strengthen transatlantic relations”, the EEAS explained in a statement, despite the fact that the relationship has been difficult since Donald Trump came to power. During their meeting, Mr Borrell and Mr Pompeo discussed Libya and the situation in the Middle East. (CG)
