EU ministers to discuss agricultural aspects of ‘European Green Deal’ on 27 January

The agriculture ministers of the EU countries will discuss the agricultural aspects of the 'European Green Deal' on Monday 27 January in Brussels.

On Monday 20 January, the experts of the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) prepared the ministerial debate by examining a note from the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council on this subject.

On 11 December 2019, the Commission published its Communication 'The European Green Deal'.

Under the 'Farm to Fork' chapter, it is underlined that European farmers are key to managing the transition. The 'Farm to Fork' strategy (expected in spring 2020) should strengthen farmers' efforts to tackle climate change, protect the environment and preserve biodiversity, the Croatian note said. In its CAP proposals for the period 2021-2027, the Commission indicates that at least 40% of the CAP’s overall budget should contribute to climate action. The Commission underlines the role played by future 'national strategic plans' (precision agriculture, organic farming, agro-forestry) and environmental programmes.
