09/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – Faced with the persistence of “grey areas” within “developments” deemed “positive”, the Council of Europe's Group of States Against Corruption (GRECO) asks France to ensure that members of the executive - including the President of the Republic - publicly report, at regular intervals, on the lobbyists they have met and the issues addressed. A requirement for transparency that is all the more essential, stresses GRECO, as “the growing expectations of the public as to the exemplary conduct of members of the executive are palpable in France”. In its report published on Thursday, GRECO also calls for a “comprehensive strategy to be drawn up for the prevention of corruption” in the police and gendarmerie, as well as a revision of the law on the protection of whistleblowers, considered at this stage “complex and not entirely effective”.
