09/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – MEPs on the European Parliament's Committee on Legal Affairs (JURI) approved on Thursday 9 January, by 21 votes in favour with 1 abstention, the decision to open interinstitutional negotiations on the regulation on the digitisation of cooperation between the courts of the Member States in the taking of evidence and on the regulation on the electronic service of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil and commercial matters (see EUROPE 12031/12). The European Parliament had in fact adopted its position before the European elections (see EUROPE 12193/5). This vote therefore enables it to strengthen its position and to start negotiations with the EU Council, which adopted its negotiating mandate at the beginning of December (see EUROPE 12382/1). Croatia has already announced that it is aiming for a 'trilogue' agreement (see EUROPE 12396/12) before the end of its Presidency of the EU Council. (MF)
