Commission to examine impact of its anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese cast iron articles

The Commission announced on Wednesday 18 December that it was reopening its anti-dumping investigation concerning imports of certain cast iron articles originating in China.

Ten Union producers in fact had asked the Commission whether anti-dumping duties (ranging from 15.5% to 38.1%), imposed on these products in 2018, had had the expected effects on prices (export prices, resale prices or subsequent selling prices in the Union) (see EUROPE 11951/21).

According to the European producers, Chinese export prices have decreased, hampering the expected remedial effects of the anti-dumping tariffs in force.

The Commission is therefore opening new enquiries known as absorption reinvestigations.

Therefore, imports of certain Chinese articles of lamellar graphite cast iron (grey iron) or spheroidal graphite cast iron (also known as ductile cast iron), and parts thereof, such as manhole covers or gratings used for street drainage, are subject to the investigation.

The new investigation could lead to a reassessment of these duties.
